Account Each user who registers gets an account after approval. Associated with the account is a user name and password, which is used to login to DiaspoCareers. Also, there are some privileges associated with the account.
Banner A banner is a graphical image that is embedded in a web page and is used primarily for advertising. http://computer.howstuffworks.com/banner-ad1.htm
Blog A blog (a contraction of the term "Web log") is a Web site, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog Cache A temporary storage area where frequently accessed data can be stored for rapid access. Once the data is stored in the cache, future use can be made by accessing the cached copy rather than re-fetching or recomputing the original data, so that the average access time is shorter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CacheIf your directory is at the early stage where content is being ramped up and is updated very often, it is suggested that the caching option is disabled. Once the content of the directory has stabilised and all settings are configured, it is highly recommended that caching is enabled.
Category A category is a classification of the directory listings. It is a collection of listings sharing a "common" attribute. Eg., articles, news, products, services, etc. A user may suggest a new category in addition to the existing categories. Note that a listing can belong to one or several categories.
CAPTCHA A type of challenge-response test used in computing to ensure that the response is not generated by a computer. The process usually involves one computer (a server) asking a user to complete a simple test which the computer is able to generate and grade. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captcha
Cron Job Cron is the name of program that enables unix users to execute commands or scripts (groups of commands) automatically at a specified time/date. It is normally used for sys admin commands, like makewhatis, which builds a search database for the man -k command, or for running a backup script, but can be used for anything. A common use for it today is connecting to the internet and downloading your email. Deep Links Deep links are hyperlinks that point to a specific page or image on another website, instead of that website's main or home page. Admin can manage a number of allowed deep links from admin panel. This feature is commonly used for paid listings when setting up a sponsored plan. Featured Listing When a listing is featured, it appears in the Featured Block. The idea behind "featuring" a listing is to "highlight" it in comparison with the other listings, usually a short period (e.g., 1 month). It is usual practice to charge for featuring a listing. Admin can make Featured Listing manually or take money for it. In this case a sponsored plan should be created in admin panel.
Listing
A listing is an entry in a category, including the ROOT. The basic element of any directory. When a listing is suggested, it has to be approved first. Once a listing is approved (i.e. in the system) it can be checked for following conditions: broken, reciprocal, duplicate. Menu These are navigational menus which link to other pages. There are 4 menus provided - Inventory, Main, Bottom and Account. They can be easily configured via Admin Panel. Administrator can include any page in these menus.
Meta- The prefix meta- is used to mean about (its own category). For example, metadata are data about data (who has produced them, when, what format the data are in and so on).
Mod Rewrite A rewrite engine is software which modifies a web URL's appearance (URL rewriting). Users of web applications prefer short, neat URLs to raw query string parameters. A concise URL is easy to remember, and less time-consuming to type in. Multicross Multi-cross is the number of additional categories. A listing always belong to a category, but it can also be listed in other categories. This feature is also used for sponsored listings. People who submit a sponsored listing can have a better PR if they have a link back from several categories. Also if it's a high traffic directory people will have more clicks on their listing if they have it in several categories. Nofollow nofollow is an HTML attribute value used to instruct some search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target's ranking in the search engine's index. Partner Listing Partner listing are reserved for those considered as "partners". Admin manually manages partner listings in admin panel. Any listing can be considered as Partner once admin makes it partner. These listings can be displayed on top of regular listings and highlighted with a different color.
Phrase A piece of text used for short descriptions, error messages, comments, etc. Examples: "Not available", "URL located, contest follows (200)"
Plan A Plan is a specific arrangement for publishing a listing in the directory. Typically, there are several plans to choose from. A plan arrangement includes the following:
Reciprocal URL Reciprocal URL is the web page address link on the website of the listing owner that would contain a link back to your website. It requires a link/ad owner that has a link on our website to maintain a reciprocal link on their website back to yours. The Reciprocal URL is where one would type the web address where it can be found and verify the existence of the web link back to your web page.
ROOT It refers to the highest level of the directory, above all categories. It's also a homepage of your site. If you need to change Meta or text for your homepage you should edit ROOT category. This can be done from Admin Panel -> Browse Categories. Sendmail Sendmail is a mail transfer agent (MTA) that supports many kinds of mail transfer and delivery including the overwhelmingly popular SMTP. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sendmail
Smarty Smarty is a web template system written in PHP. Smarty is primarily promoted as a tool for separation of concerns, which is a common design strategy for certain kinds of applications. Smarty generates web content by the placement of special Smarty tags within a document. Sub-category A category can be further broken down into categories, which are usually referred to as sub-categories. There can be several levels of categories. Technically, there is no limit on the number of levels.
Sponsored Listing When a listing is sponsored, it appears in the Sponsored Block. It also appears as "boxed" in the Listing page, ahead of free listings. Sponsored listings are "paid advertisements". TagCloud A tag cloud or word cloud (or weighted list in visual design) is a visual depiction of user-generated tags, or simply the word content of a site, used typically to describe the content of web sites. Tags are usually single words and are typically listed alphabetically, and the importance of a tag is shown with font size or color. Thus both finding a tag by alphabet and by popularity is possible.
